It’s incredible to think about all that happened during Jesus’ life on earth and what it must have been like to interact with Him during that time. I have so many questions!

How did it feel for Mary to be visited by an angel and to be told she would be the mother to the Son of God? Did Mary realize what was going on immediately, or did it take a while to set in?

What was Mary thinking when she carried the Lord and Savior of the world inside her womb? How did it feel to raise Him? What were Jesus’ friends and relatives thinking when they saw Him perform miracles? When He was put to death on the cross?

The story of Jesus is mind-boggling! Jesus, who is God, came to Earth to be born a human—to be one of us (John 1:14). He was born in a humble place, when He could have been born in an extravagant and beautiful home. God came to earth not to live an easy life here but to live a sinless life on our behalf. He came not to be pain free but to take our pain on Himself. He was sent to take our sins onto Himself on the cross and then defeat sin and death by rising from the grave.

He came to save the world (John 3:16-17).

He came because He loves us (Romans 5:8).

And He’s coming back to make all things new (Revelation 21:1-5). • Bethany Acker

But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. Luke 2:19 (NIV)
