A true friend will be by your side through anything, good or bad. They won’t abandon you or just tell you what to do and then leave. They’ll be with you no matter what.
Jesus, who is fully God and fully human, is our truest friend. He promises to never forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:8). We can know He’ll never leave us in the dust because He beat sin—the very thing that separates us from Him; He laid down His life for us on the cross so we could have peace with Him (Romans
5:1-8). That is real love and friendship: He’d rather suffer and die on a cross than let us suffer by spending an eternity without God, who is the Creator of the universe, the definition of good, and the source of life (John 15:13).
Not only is Jesus the truest and most extraordinary friend anyone could have, He is also our Brother. Through faith in Him, Jesus makes a way for us to become children of God (John 1:12). And, if He has done all this for us, we can lean on Him, no matter what comes (Matthew 28:20; Romans 8:31-39). • Aidan Mencer
