Have you ever wondered what God wants you to do with your life? As teenagers, it often feels like the pressure is ON to decide the course of our entire adult lives right now. Everyone around us seems to be asking the same questions about our post-graduation plans. Many times, I’ve found myself crying over the stress of it all and asking God, Where do You want me to go?only to have it seem like I’m still waiting with no clear direction in sight. If you can relate to any of this, I want to encourage you today to focus on what Matthew 4 shares about the calling of the first disciples. Simon Peter, Andrew, James, and John were fishermen. That’s what they did for a living. When Jesus told them, Follow Me, it meant leaving absolutely EVERYTHING they had behind and trusting in Jesus to provide for them. They didn’t know where Jesus was going to lead them; they just chose to follow. They didn’t know how they were going to be provided for or what people were going to think of them; they just chose to follow. The unknown is scary, stressful, and hard, and we aren’t promised a blueprint of every major decision in our lives. Instead, as Christians, we follow and trust Jesus, the One who never changes, is always with us, and is working all things for His good kingdom purposes (Matthew 28:20; Romans 8:28; Hebrews 13:8). Are we called to know everything about our future or to trust the One who does know everything? Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
